Question by Mind Crime: Where or how does one ”recycle” televisions? Properly?
My 27” finally pooped itself after 12yrs faithful service.
I don’t want to chuck the thing into the landfill..so if you ”Saints of the Earth” enviros could direct me to the proper place I would appreciate it…and no it can’t be repaired and donated to anyone..it’s garbage.

Question by Rainier: Do I need to recycle my TV and computer equipment in Washington State?
The Washington State Department of Ecology is very interested in us recycling old televisions, stereos, computers, and other electronics equipment. In 2009 they will offer free recycling for consumers. But is electronics recycling in the State of Washington mandatory, or is it just recommended? In other words, if I’m a horrible person and throw my stuff in the trash, what are the consequences, if any?

Well, you most likely will not get caught, but I’ll tell you the environmental consequences. Your TV and computers are most likely made of a battery and other equipment containing heavy metals. Its very likely that water can leach out these chemicals, and pollute your soil that you live on. Or maybe it will leach into ground water supplies. Or perhaps ocean. Do you like sushi? Me too. I prefer mine sans the mercury. No matter what, you will just be frustrated in the end because your tax dollars are working to clean up superfund and hazardous waste sites that you could have helped contribute to. And geez, you live in Washington, everythings green and pretty there, keep it that way!
