A hidden recycle bin folder is taking up 75 GB!?
Question by Alchemist89: A hidden recycle bin folder is taking up 75 GB!?
Lately I’ve noticed that my hard drive space has been diminishing even when I delete movies, music, and other large files. Now I’m down to 18 GB of free space from nearly 90 GB, and I’ve deleted a lot of things! I’ve tried emptying my recycle bin, running anti-virus programs, running a disk clean up, removing programs I don’t use often, defragmenting my disk, and so forth. Then I decided to uncheck the “hide system folders” option so I could look at them, and I found a folder in my C drive called “$ Recycle.Bin”, and it’s empty, but the properties of that folder says it contains 75 GB of space!!!! So now I know where all my space went to, but I’m afraid to delete that “empty” folder. What the heck is going on, and does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I will give 10 points to anyone who can help me fix this problem!
Btw, I’m running Windows Vista Home Edition. If you need any more specifics, let me know!

OK I had the same problem so listen up.
Usually when you delete stuff from your computer, the space deleted remains on your computer. If uninstalled correctly, it will usually be deleted, but not in this case.
To remove all of this used space, there is a simple program called ‘Revo’. Download this, go to the cleaning up section, and down the bottom there should be a button asking you if you want to remove this used space. Its hard to find, but if you scroll down, you should see it.
do this, and you should be fine.
btw it takes ages!!! Do it overnight!!!

Try right-clicking the Recycle Bin and selecting Properties. Check the box for Do Not Move Deleted Items To The Recycle Bin.
Reboot.
Go back to Properties and Turn the Recycle Bin Back on.
That should clear the file.
If not try running chkdsk to make sure it is not a file system error. Computer>rightclick C: drive>select Properties>tools tab>Check for errors (just the first box ticked is OK). It will schedule for next reboot.
Reboot. It will run chkdsk. See if any change in size used.
You can do the two options above in any order.

Recycle Bin Recovery – How to Recover Files Deleted From Recycle Bin
Recycle Bin Recovery – How to Recover Files Deleted From Recycle Bin
Sometimes it happens that you will accidentally delete some files from your computer. Or on occasions, you may realize that you would need some previously deleted files. Don’t worry, as you can recover those files even they were deleted from recycle bin in a matter of seconds.
When you install Windows, on your desktop you will see a small icon named Recycle Bin. All the deleted files will go there and they will stay there as long as you do not empty it. This option is enabled by default, and you will have exactly 100 MB of space there. You could disable it, but this is not recommended.
The Recycle-bin will act just like any other folder. Find the deleted file there, right click on it, and choose restore from the contextual menu. The file will be back to its original location and you can use it immediately.
For a good computer with lots of storage space, it is recommended to set your Recycle Bin to 10 or 20 GB and you should try to keep the files there for at least six months or more. This way you could recover most of your files if you need them at a later stage.

However, for some files, the restore option may not be available. Also if you click on Empty Recycle-Bin, all the files there will disappear. Don’t worry, as there are still two methods on how to recover files deleted from recycle bin.
The first one is called system recovery and you will find it under System Tools from Accessories. Be aware that this option will revert your computer to an earlier stage and will affect other files as well, so you might need to think about all the programs or files being affected.
The second way to recover deleted recycle bin files which is also recommended is to choose a specialized software to do that for you. This kind of data recovery software is fast in finding and recovering files deleted from recycle bin and does not require any special technical or data recovery skills to work with the software. Therefore, it is not necessary to keep worrying about how to recover files deleted from recycle bin in the future.
REMO Recovery Software is a recovery applications which employ improved and efficient scanning algorithms and recover files in their original form, regardless of the data loss situation. Why not Download REMO Recover for a FAST way to recover files deleted from recycle bin?
Recover Deleted Recycle Bin Files is easy to do with Data Recovery Software. If you Scan Your Computer it will detect and recover all the Files Deleted From Recycle Bin in their original form, regardless of the data loss situation.
