Q&A: What is the difference between green IT and Tech recycling from an awareness point of view?
Question by prince: What is the difference between green IT and Tech recycling from an awareness point of view?
I am working on an awareness campaign for a tech. Recycling project and want to increase awareness about e-waste and promoting a greener environment. So someone asked me about green IT and why I didn’t mention it in my campaign. Isn’t green IT part of the solution to reducing e-waste? Or would there be a difference in scope?

This is the problem with the english language. Different meanings for the same words.
My guess is that green IT means using equipment that is greener, what ever that is. E-waste is the trash you end up with when stuff is obsolete. So the 2 could be different with some overlap.

How does the recycle center know if trash has been placed in the green waste can?

I have different pick up days for my green waste and recyclables. they alternate every other week. My son accidentally put trash in the green waste can thinking it was recyclable. On my next bill I got a 40$ charge for it. I’m not disputing it because he told he didn’t know because it was dark outside and he may have done it by accident, But my question is if the trash man isn’t physically opening the lid to see whats inside how did they know it came from my household?

They shouldn’t, in fact, what they do in the recycling plants is take out the garbage left in there by mistake by hand. I don’t understand how you got that bill. I accidentally threw garbage in the recycling can and nothing happened. Y’know, if you go to howstuffworks.com, they might tell you about the process in the recycling plant.

Revving Labrie Automizer! Garden City’s 508
San Jose, CA trip 2011/2012! Over the summer when I was in San Jose I saw this truck and driver, but I didn’t film because I was saving battery and space for the green waste crew. Anyways, after that fast and revving performance I was hoping that this was this truck’s regular route, and sure enough, it is! This truck is one of Garden City’s older Automizers, #508. They have a few Autocar WXLL/ Labrie Expert 2000s with tippers on the street side for one-way streets. Their fleet is 100% Autocar and 100% Labrie. OK so to keep myself from answering the same question over and over again, here are the companies that serve San Jose: Throughout the city, Green Waste Recovery provides green waste collection and street sweeping. In districts A and C of San Jose Garden City Sanitation provides garbage collection, while California Waste Solutions provides recycling collections. West Valley Sanitation provides garbage and recycling collection in district B of the city. So yes, in districts A and C there are 3 separate companies rolling down the street! Thanks to the driver! For me one of the best parts about working on a rear loader is this getting full stage, because it means you get to take a break on the way to the dump. On top of that it’s also awesome watching the packer and cylinders powering into the material, along with hearing the awesome sound of the engine as the overload of pressure affects the pump. On these old Compaction Systems bodies there weren’t any pressure sensors, so you had to cut power to the packer or reverse the mechanism yourself (which was quite inconvenient). This is why you had to be very careful with this equipment to avoid blowing a cylinder or rupturing a hose – it was ideal to stop it as soon as the engine tone changed to that deep groan. The heat produced during this area of operation is pretty full-on too, just watch the steam in the last clip when there are pressure overloads! These are very hard packers, you can squash a fair bit of material in just the tailgate… they were mean machines on these vegetation runs =]
